  • Overview

    The Advanced Electronics Product Engineer is responsible for the concept level development of advanced electronic products for commercialization at the direction of customers or in support of internal PI initiatives.  This includes development of the electronics hardware and software components of new technologies, creation of physical properties, sales and quoting support, participating in new technology research, participating new technology conventions, traveling with sales team, sharing advanced knowledge with the multidisciplinary teams, creation of new circuit, software and patentable design concepts.  This person will work under the direction of the Hardware Engineering Manager and will be part of the Hardware Engineering team.  Work concerning advanced software concepts may be placed under the direction of the Software Engineering Manager.

     

    The Advanced Electronics Product Engineer is responsible for performing advanced conceptual work in the following areas:

    • Automotive Electronics Hardware
    • Automotive Electro-Optical
    • Automotive Electronic Product Architectures including Software

    Additionally the Advanced Electronics Product Engineer is responsible for:

    • New business project support
    • Quoting support
    • Demonstration property development
    • Identifying new development technologies and innovations.

    Responsibilities

    • Translate all formal and informal internal, regulatory, and customer-provided product specifications for electronic components into detailed preliminary product functional requirements.
    • Engage early in the conceptual design process with Product Design Engineering to determine the extent of additional secondary design requirements (EMC, Environmental, Design for Manufacturing, WCCA, etc.) that will be applied to the final marketable product.
    • Ensure that the design of the final electronic concept meets all stated product functional requirements and is positioned for success in terms of eventual full compliance with Customer and Pacific Insight secondary design requirements (EMC, Environmental, Design for Manufacturing, WCCA, etc.).
    • Keep abreast of new technologies and products which may be incorporated into PI commercial offerings through participation in webinars, conferences and on-going training.
    • Understand customer general electrical and EMC requirements and consider those when developing advanced product concepts.
    • Support the sales team in technical presentations and technical analysis of business opportunities.
    • Support the sales team in creating demonstration properties. This entails designing semi-custom hardware, physical “craftsmanship” / fabrication (or arranging for same), and programming (re-programming / re-flashing) standard or semi-custom PI products with custom code or alternate code developed by Software Engineering.
    • Participate in regular project team meetings to defend the concept integrity, review requirements, discuss status, monitor concerns and drive technical issues to closure.
    • Maintain design revision details to ensure traceability of prototypes, and ensure prototypes are correctly labeled, adequately tested and delivered to the customer on time.
    • Exclusively use Workfront for all relevant responsibilities according to PI Policy.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
    • Minimum of 3 years of industry related experience in electronics design, manufacturing operations cost control etc.
    • Broad electronics engineering design knowledge: electronics hardware and PCB design, software, plastics, heat transfer.
    • Understand principles of TQM, SPC, and Continuous Improvement and can transfer this knowledge into effective product design and development
    • Knowledge of the automotive launch process including DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s, DVP&R, control plans, etc.
    • Experience in a high volume, high availability business environment.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook

     

    Training Requirements:

    • Review and Demonstrate competency in the following areas, APQP/TS/ISO Quality Management systems.
    • Review and Demonstrated awareness of PIE Corp level 2 Policy Manual.
    • Review and demonstrate awareness/competency in departmental Level III
      Policy/Procedures.
    • Awareness of automotive core tool - APQP
    • Awareness of automotive core tool – DFMEA
    • PAQS training
    • Workfront PI Introductory Training
    • Workfront for Team Members (online)
    • Workfront Work Requests (online)
    • Workfront Fundamentals (online)

    • Ability to combine and balance creative freedom (developing exciting new product core concepts) with the real world “hard” technical requirements (customer electrical, EMC, environmental, PPAP collateral).
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, change oriented organization.
