  • Overview

    Methode Electronics is seeking a Domestic Tax Manager to join our Corporate Tax department in Chicago IL reporting to Methode’s VP of Tax.  You will manage and advise on the preparation and presentation of information necessary for the accurate completion of the Company’s tax returns and related reports to ensure organizational compliance with Federal, State and local tax laws and regulations. You will also be responsible for the preparation of the quarterly tax provision and analyzing the tax consequences for complex business transactions. Additionally, you will collaborate with other internal accounting and finance personnel as well as with external advisors.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage Income Tax Provision processes including calculation of effective tax rates, related journal entries, review of tax account reconciliations, and various memos
    • Determine tax consequences for a variety of complex transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, tax audits, tax planning projects, tax legislative activities and tax accounting matters 
    • Responsible for the gathering of tax information for the Federal, State, and local tax returns
    • Work with the VP of Tax to develop, research and implement tax strategies
    • Assist with international aspects of income/non-income tax returns, along with Forms 1118 and 5471 (and 861 apportionment) for all non-US entities
    • Document and disclose uncertain tax positions
    • Assist with reaching Company goals through audit, tax advisory, and risk assessment
    • Maintain internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
    • Oversee selected property taxes
    • Coordinate and resolve all income, sales/use and property tax audits
    • Assist with acquisition and divestitures including advising on proper tax or legal entity structures and related financial statement impacts
    • Provide guidance on payroll and expatriate tax issues, including expatriate employee equalization
    • Participate in the strategic planning process by preparing forecasts and modeling calculations for minimizing taxes and tax compliance costs consistent with overall corporate objectives
    • Work with the organization to promote tax consciousness throughout the Company
    • Oversee credit calculation research  
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
    • Master’s degree in Accounting or Tax a plus
    • CPA or JD highly encouraged
    • At least 5 years’ combined experience in public accounting and private industry 
    • Good understanding of US Federal and State tax principles
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and corporate tax law
    • Detail oriented with strong research and analytical skills
    • Excellent writing and communication skills
    • Ability to discuss complex issues at the appropriate level of detail for target audience
    • Demonstrated team player with strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines
    • Microsoft Office skills
    • 10% travel (local, domestic and international)
