  • Overview

    Your objective is to design new lighting products for commercial vehicles (Class 8 trucks) using both analog and microcontroller components. The position involves working within the product development team to understand the product concepts, create schematics, perform PCB layout, prepare product DFMEAs, develop test plans, test and troubleshoot prototypes, produce manufacturing documentation, and so forth.


    The successful candidate will perform the testing and troubleshooting of their designs using a variety of lab test equipment, and may need to construct test jigs or other equipment as part of the test process. The candidate will also be responsible for documenting electrical product development using a standardized process. The ideal candidate shall have a good working knowledge and experience with microprocessors, analog and digital peripheral circuits, and low-power switching power supplies.


    • Design and develop hardware circuits for various products, involving analog and digital circuitry
    • Build and test electronic prototypes
    • Handle a variety of technical assignments involving some complexity and recommend solutions to technical problems
    • Create design calculations and develop detailed designs
    • Create and perform test plans, document, and analyze results
    • Propose and implement design changes to the product based on testing
    • Component/material selection - evaluation of alternative components and materials on a cost/performance basis
    • Ensure applicable regulatory requirements are met
    • Work closely with others in Product Development as well as Supply Chain to ensure everything is in place to build the new products
    • Prepare and maintain technical documentation
    • Work with the firmware and software teams as they write software for your designs
    • Contribute to continuous improvements of existing products and systems
    • Participate in the development of the department's strategic goals and direction


    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
    • 5+ years’ experience designing analog / digital hardware, drawing schematics, performing PCB layouts, writing test plans, performing faultfinding, creating test jigs, etc.
    • Experience with a variety of test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, etc.
    • Experience soldering SMT components
    • Relevant experience with analog circuits, microprocessor based circuitry, switch-mode power supplies, etc.
    • Should be familiar with developing products and documentation for off shore manufacturing
    • Experience working within a structured Quality environment, ideally ISO/TS 16949.
    • Experience with EMC testing (FCC/CE) is considered an asset
    • Familiarity with Altium and LTSPICE would be desirable; Creo experience is a plus
    • Enjoys getting “hands dirty" building prototypes, performing wire and cable assembly and routing, basic mechanical assembly, etc.
    • A flexible team player with a strong sense of ownership, coupled with technical experience and 'out-of-the-box' creativity
    • Able to establish effective working relationships throughout operational groups
    • Excellent analysis, problem solving, design, and troubleshooting skills
    • Thrives in a highly collaborative cross-functional environment
    • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, both domestically and internationally
